Focus on initial phoneme isolation and the position of sounds in words by exploring matches like those between spoken words and picture cues.
Improve accurate and automatic reading and spelling by focusing on segmentation, deletion, and substitution of phonemes in words.
Connect phonemic awareness to phonics through word-level chaining and sound blending, helping students read words accurately and automatically.
Develop comprehension and depth of word knowledge by practicing the relationships between words including antonyms (opposites), synonyms (same), and homophones (same sound but different meanings).
Sort words into categories based on their meaning, building foundational skills including meaning networks and identifying the main idea.
Improve comprehension and decoding accuracy by using knowledge of word relationships, classification, and other skills to figure out a missing word in a sentence.
